Day-by-Day Itinerary
Arrival in Arusha — Safari Capital
Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport where your guide meets you. Transfer to a luxury Arusha hotel set in coffee plantation gardens with views of Mount Meru. Enjoy a welcome dinner and safari briefing where your guide explains the current migration position and what to expect over the coming week. Rest well — tomorrow begins your encounter with Africa's greatest wildlife spectacle.
Accommodation: Luxury hotel — Arusha coffee plantation
Meals: Dinner
Ngorongoro Crater — Big Five in a Volcanic Arena
After breakfast, drive to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Descend 600 metres into the crater — a natural volcanic amphitheatre spanning 260 square kilometres and home to around 25,000 animals. The crater floor supports the densest concentration of wildlife in Africa: lion prides, black rhino, elephant, buffalo, and hippo pools. Spot flamingos on Lake Magadi, watch hyena clans interact at their den, and keep your eyes on the acacia woodland for elusive leopard. After a full day of game driving with a packed gourmet lunch on the crater floor, ascend to your lodge on the crater rim for sundowner drinks overlooking one of the most breathtaking views on Earth.
Accommodation: Crater rim lodge with caldera views
Meals: Breakfast, Packed gourmet lunch, Dinner
Transfer to the Serengeti — Endless Plains
Depart the Ngorongoro area and drive through the Serengeti's southern gate. The landscape transforms from highland forest to the vast, golden savannahs that gave the Serengeti its name — 'siringet' in the Maasai language, meaning 'the place where the land runs on forever'. Game drive en route, watching for cheetah on the open plains, secretary birds striding through the grass, and the first distant herds of the migration. Arrive at your luxury tented camp in time for an afternoon game drive before the sun turns the Serengeti gold.
Accommodation: Luxury tented camp — Central or Northern Serengeti (seasonal)
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Serengeti — Full Day Migration Tracking
A full day dedicated to the Great Migration. Depart at dawn when predators are most active — this is the hour when lions return from their night hunt and cheetahs begin to stalk. Your guide uses radio contact with other drivers and spotter planes to position you in the path of the herds. Depending on the season, you may witness dramatic river crossings where thousands of wildebeest plunge into crocodile-infested waters, or the vast calving grounds where 8,000 new calves are born every day, attracting predators from across the ecosystem. Enjoy a gourmet bush lunch under an acacia tree before continuing the afternoon drives until sunset. Return to camp for a starlit dinner.
Accommodation: Luxury tented camp — Central or Northern Serengeti (seasonal)
Meals: Breakfast, Bush lunch, Dinner
Serengeti — Predators, Plains & Optional Balloon
Optional dawn hot air balloon safari over the Serengeti ($550 pp) — drift silently above the migration herds as the sun paints the plains in shades of amber and gold, followed by a champagne breakfast in the bush. If staying on the ground, enjoy a dawn game drive focused on the Serengeti's world-class predators. Today's drives explore different areas of the park — rocky kopjes where lion prides rest in the shade, riverine forest where leopards drape across branches, and open plains where cheetah coalitions coordinate their hunts. Late afternoon, visit a Maasai boma (traditional homestead) to learn about the pastoralist culture that coexists with the wildlife.
Accommodation: Luxury tented camp — Central or Northern Serengeti (seasonal)
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Serengeti — Final Game Drives & Sunset Farewell
Your last full day in the Serengeti — make it count. A dawn game drive targets any species still on your wish list. Your guide will draw on all their local knowledge to track specific sightings. Mid-morning, return to camp for brunch and a few hours of relaxation — perhaps a swim in the camp pool while watching warthogs graze nearby, or journalling in the shade of your tent's verandah. The afternoon drive is your farewell to the Serengeti — a long, slow cruise through the golden grass as the sun drops and the animals emerge for their evening routines. Finish with sundowners overlooking the plains and a final bush dinner under the stars.
Accommodation: Luxury tented camp — Central or Northern Serengeti (seasonal)
Meals: Breakfast, Brunch, Bush dinner
