OverviewAbout North Island Lodge
The world's most exclusive private island — eleven handcrafted villas on a pristine Seychelles island where barefoot luxury and radical conservation coexist.
North Island Lodge is widely regarded as one of the most exclusive and expensive private island retreats on Earth — a place where kings, presidents, and the global elite come to disappear into a paradise so pristine it feels like stepping into a world untouched by time. The island, just 201 hectares in size, has been the subject of one of the Indian Ocean's most ambitious ecological restoration projects, transforming a former coconut plantation into a thriving wilderness where endangered species flourish.
The eleven Presidential Villas are monuments to barefoot luxury, each spanning approximately 450 square meters of hand-thatched, open-plan living space. Built entirely from local materials — driftwood, palm thatch, granite, and reclaimed plantation timber — each villa sits on its own private stretch of beach with an infinity pool, outdoor shower, sala daybed, and personal golf buggy. Interiors are deliberately free of electronic distractions; there are no televisions, no clocks, and no room numbers — only names drawn from the island's botanical heritage.
The island's dining philosophy is 'Noah's Ark' — a concept that promises guests anything they want, whenever they want it. There are no set mealtimes or menus. The executive chef crafts each meal based on daily conversations with guests, incorporating the day's catch from the resident fisherman, organic herbs from the island garden, and seasonal fruits harvested from the tropical groves. Dining locations shift daily — beachfront one evening, a candlelit granite outcrop the next, the historic Plantation House another night.
North Island's conservation story is as compelling as its luxury. The island is home to the Seychelles white-eye — a bird once considered the rarest in the world — as well as giant Aldabra tortoises reintroduced to roam freely, hawksbill turtle nesting beaches protected by dedicated rangers, and native forests being painstakingly restored tree by tree. Every guest interaction, from guided nature walks to snorkeling excursions, is underpinned by the island's mission to prove that luxury tourism and ecological restoration can be mutually reinforcing.
